Chunky baby set pattern
Knitted baby bonnet and baby vest pattern in a chunky garter stitch knit
A warm baby set in cosy chunky knit: a baby bonnet and matching vest. Thanks to the chunky yarn and simple garter stitch pattern, this set knits up quickly and is ideal for beginners.
The bonnet is worked from the forehead towards the back of the head. Short rows are used to create a comfortable fit and give the hat its adorable dwarf hat shape. The little hat is finished using a 3-needle bind-off, or alternatively by binding off normally and seaming the back edge. Both methods you will find explained in pictures in the tutorial.
For the neckband, stitches are picked up along the edge, allowing the ties to be knitted or crocheted directly onto the bonnet. In just one or two evenings, you can create a wonderfully warm first hat for a little newborn.
The matching baby vest is knitted in one piece from the bottom up. Without shoulder seams, making it especially comfortable for little ones. The beautiful V-neck is shaped with simple increases, and the chunky vest is finished with ties that can be braided, knitted, or crocheted to suit your preference.
You can easily expand this timeless set with a matching slipover and baby cardigan in the same chunky knit, creating an especially cosy autumn and winter outfit for a little girl or boy.
